Relationships, refer to the mechanic between the player and the various love interests in Postknight.
Overview[]
In the game, the player is able to interact with specific NPCs to receive gifts (in specialized "chests") from and give gifts to them. Their Bond measures in a scale of five Hearts, and it will grow with as the player gives them different Gifts. Dialogue and animations differ with the Gifts given, depending on the amount of hearts and the kind of Gift.
Note that not talking to a NPC for 24 hours will make them angry, and their bond will decrease by 1/4❤.
Relationship Items[]
- "(*girl* does not seem to be pleased. Maybe you should spend more time with her.)"
- ―Message after the player misses a girl for a day then talks to her
Relationship Items, or simply gifts, are items in Postknight that are used to heighten the relationship between the player and one of the "love interests".
Unlike a majority of Items, relationship items don't drop from enemies. Common gifts can drop from Chests from Delivery Quests. Rare gifts are slightly harder to get, requiring trade from a specific location, and the flowers of epic rarity are obtained only from trading with Merchant Carle in Pompon .
Though they are much less common to come across than other items, their impact on the Main Quests is virtually insignificant. If the player does proceed to gift these items to the love interests, they will begin to gift back non-relationship items, effectively becoming a generator for specific items.
Additionally, there are specific gifts that, when given at 5❤, will trigger a Memory that can be revisited later. Each girl has one such gift in the main game, plus one for the three events in the game (Blossom Festival, Hollow's Eve, Wintertide), totaling into four individual Items for each girl that triggers a Memory.
Gifting[]
Each NPC likes to receive certain Gifts, and just like the boxes that they give, the lore of the character can give hints to what they may like to be gifted with. What they dislike though may not be as obvious, and gifting those items will instead make their bond drop. At 5❤, the love interest will mention their "legendary item", a gift in the main game that will trigger a Memory.
The likes and dislikes of each love interest can be identified by the "face" on the Item after they have been given that gift at least once. Also, each response has a different sound effect, animation and dialogue attached to it.
- A smiling face means that she likes the item, or in the game files, she reacts neutrally to the item. A single heart rises, increasing her bond with you by 1/10❤.
- A face with hearts for eyes means that she favors the item. Multiple hearts spread out, increasing her bond with you even further.
- A sickly face means that she dislikes the item. A teardrop falls, decreasing her bond with you.
Note that the "multiple hearts spread out" effect occurs only if the gift was received at lower than 5❤, defaulting to "a single heart rises" effect at 5❤ even if she favors the gift. The sound effects and dialogue remain the same.
Love Interests[]
Gifts given to love interests affect their bond with you. You can gift a love interest every 4 hours and receive a gift from them every 8 hours. The received gift contains two items, but this will be increased to three upon reaching a bond of 5❤.
The minimum Bond requirement to receive gifts depends on the Love Interest in question. For example, Magnolia easily warms up to the player and can gift as early as 1❤, while Camellia is less trusting and requires 3❤ before she can gift the player. The amount and quality of gifts, however, increases the higher their Bond is with you.

Memories[]
You can obtain a memory from each of the love interests if you gift a specific legendary item she desires at 5❤. These legendary items can be obtained from Grand Chests, either as a reward from S-rank delivery quests or as a gift from pets at 5❤, or from trading with Merchant Cyrus at Caldemount.
The player can choose to gift the legendary item early, but the memory will not be obtained. Their Bond will instead increase by 1❤, but you can gift them again at 5❤ to receive the memory.
Memories are collected in the stats book under Bonds after the 5❤. When you have multiple memories with a single love interest, it will show an arrow that flips through all of them.
Blossom Festival (Event)[]
In the Blossom Festival event, special memories are obtained by gifting the love interest's favorite Blossom Festival bouquet at 5❤. The love interest must be at 5❤ to earn the memory, though you can give her the bouquet early to increase her bond by 1❤.
Hollow's Eve (Event)[]
In the Hollow's Eve event, special memories are obtained by gifting the love interest one of two ensembles, the Witch Ensemble and Pumpkin Ensemble, both of which are bought from Traveling Merchant Leila. The love interest must be at 5❤ to earn the memory, though you can give her the ensemble early to increase her bond by 1❤.
Wintertide (Event)[]
In the Wintertide event, special memories are obtained by gifting the love interest one of the 6 Wintertide Items that can be bought by the Traveling Merchant Leila. The love interest must be at 5❤ to earn the memory, though you can give her the Wintertide item early to increase her bond by 1❤.
Pets[]
Pets are another form of NPC that use same Relationship system as the love interests, but here you adopt and take care of them.
They prefer a specific food unique to the area they live in, but also accept common-rarity gifts, all of which happen to be food. Gifting any other gift, or food meant for another pet will result in the pet turning the gift away, but their bond will not decrease and you can attempt to feed the pet again. Each Merchant sells the specific food item of the pet in that area for varying amounts of Coins.
You can receive a gift from each pet every 6 hours. You will normally receive a Wooden Chest with three items, but at 3❤ you will get a Great Chest with better loot, and at 5❤, a Grand Chest with four items (potentially including the special memory items for girls).
